About.

For Ernest is a new acoustic act that stretches the definition of the traditional folk duo. They are just as comfortable leaning into fingerpicking guitar and piano based arrangements as they are delving into the world of live-looping and creating expansive soundscapes. They released their debut EP “Buildings” on July 28th 2023 and it has been well received both on streaming services & on stage. Since it’s release, the duo has received over 200,000 streams on Spotify, spent some time on the top trending Folk artists list on SubmitHub & performed a series of live shows. In 2024 the group released a follow up EP titled “Additions”. The first single “I Didn’t Know You” was added by Spotify to the Editorial Playlist “Renegades” and the second single “Found and Seen” has been played on SiriusXM’s North Americana channel. The duo performed in support of the new releases this past summer, including slots at Toronto’s “NXNE 2024”, British Columbia’s “Robson Valley Music Festival” & a hometown slot at “Cicada Music + Arts Festival”. They are recording new material in the first half of 2025 and look forward to a series of performances this coming spring and summer.

Praise.

“There’s a depth and sincerity in the songwriting in For Ernest that feels like it transcends time. The electric guitars act as ghosts in their own right, invisibly carrying messages and emotions for our ears. The haunting chord choices are reminiscent of the Civil Wars with their incredibly intimate vocal harmonies. For Ernest deserve to be in the company of these members of Americana royalty for this wonderful, emotional track “Until We’re Ghosts.”

- GREG JONES, EAR TO THE GROUND

It’s a feat often attempted but rarely executed well: live looping of multiple instruments & voices. For Ernest utilizes looping technology to the best of its abilities without ever sacrificing the connection they create with an audience. I’ve watched them hush rooms of people unaware of what was coming, as well as surprise veteran sound engineers with their ingenuity. This is definitely a folk duo to keep an eye on.
